Like most things in life, it “takes a village” to succeed as a startup. Entrepreneurs are always breaking the rules and making mistakes in an effort to succeed in their businesses. For this reason, having a mentor is crucial.

Without a savvy model, in the form of a mentor, you may make critical early mistakes that would have otherwise been avoidable. Here are five benefits of having a good mentor.

1. Success with a mentor is inevitable.

Research show that having a mentor is crucial to success. In a 2013 executive coaching study, 80 percent of CEOs revealed they received some type of mentorship. In another study, 93 percent of startups admit that mentorship is instrumental to success.

Your chances of achievement in life and business improve by having the right mentor. The valuable connections, timely advice, random check-ins will catapult you to success.

2. Gain experience not shared in books.

Experience is a precious asset — yet it’s vital to business success. There’s only so much you can gain from reading about a leader in books.

Mentorship is one sure-fire way to get experience from others.

3. Support.

Facing the impacts of failure on your own can set you back and affect your productivity. In hard times, having a mentor will help you keep your head high. Entrepreneurs often suffer from depression when they are unable to meet their goals and expectations. The impact of depression on entrepreneurs is overwhelming. But entrepreneurs without mentors bear the brunt the most.

A mentor who has experienced running a business is in the perfect position to give positive words of advice to you when things fail to go as planned. And not only do they have the right words to share, but they would also have ideas to help you steer your way to success.

4. Network opportunities.

Aside from the fact that investors trust startups who are recommended by their friends, a successful mentor has an extensive network of people who can benefit your career. A good instructor will let you tap into their network when the need arises.

5. A mentor can help prolong your business.

When you imagine the number of companies that become insolvent, you will greatly appreciate having a mentor. According to SBA, 30 percent of startups may not last past the first 24 months, and 50 percent of those may not make it past five years. However, 70 percent of mentored businesses survive longer than five years.

Diabetes is a national health crisis. It is one of the leading causes of death and disability in the US, affecting women, men, and youth populations. Diabetes affects more than 600,000 people in Maryland and nearly 1.6 million people are living with prediabetes.

Although physical activity is a key element in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes, many with this chronic disease do not become or remain regularly active. High-quality studies established that participation in regular physical activity improves blood glucose control and can prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. Yet, studies show as few as 37 percent of people with Type 2 diabetes participate in regular physical activity.

Wishing Sherri + Chris a Happy 1st Anniversary! Remember to love, communicate, forgive and most importantly…have fun on this journey you began as Mr. + Mrs. on May 25, 2014! Ivori Nicole Events was honored to be a part of your day!

For a wedding that was about family, fun and lots of bling, Hard Rock Cancun (Mexico) was the party perfect location. A color scheme of neutrals, blush, ivory and hints of coral set the stage for a sunset beach ceremony, followed by poolside cocktails and an indoor reception. The perfect end to a perfect day was during the reception, where guests spoke of their love for the couple, and wished them many years of happiness.

The Ivori Nicole Events team was right there from venue selection to wedding reception. INE researched venues in Mexico to find the one that would be just right; helped to select wedding décor; recommended a full service travel agent; aided the bride in gown selection; assisted with distributing travel information to guests; liaised with the resort’s coordinator and attended the site tour upon arrival at the resort; created the event itinerary; and directed the wedding rehearsal and reception—all to ensure the couple never had to stop enjoying themselves to worry about the details of their day.

Mr & Mrs Dubose-336

Wishing Larissa + Andre a Happy 1st Anniversary! Remember to love, communicate, forgive and most importantly…have fun on this journey you began as Mr. + Mrs. on May 17, 2014! Ivori Nicole Events was honored to be a part of your day!

Hosted in Jamaica where the bride’s grandmother lives, this was a wedding that was all about family. Special touches included the couple honoring the bride’s late mother by placing a single rose on the chair where she would have sat, and a display of vintage and modern photos depicting the love of family members who, though not physically present, were in attendance in spirit. As the ceremony was about to begin, the island sky turned dark threatening rain, but it quickly cleared up, leaving behind a sunny haze that was the perfect backdrop to this turquoise and coral colored wedding.

Ivori Nicole Events acted as the bride’s distance liaison to the resort’s on-site coordinator in finalizing the wedding details; negotiated contracts with the resort and floral designer; attended the site tour upon arrival at the resort; created the event itinerary; and directed the wedding rehearsal, ceremony and reception—all to ensure a dream wedding for this beautiful couple.

Not very long ago I had a vision for a business, a brand and a design studio that would be modern, and fresh and embrace femininity; a place that would be ripe with personality and just feel like “me”. I wanted to create the type of company that would attract couples looking for a companion in infusing inspired details, with traditional etiquette to produce magnificent fêtes that would feel uniquely like “them”. I believe that adding personality into the work I do makes it that much more meaningful.

So I planned, and I worked, and on Sunday, April 26th, I got to see all that hard work come to fruition, as employees, vendors, family and friends milled about the Ivori Nicole Events Design Studio nibbling saccharine treats and drinking celebratory champagne at our Open House event, Cupcakes & Bubbly. Cupcakes & Bubbly was an opportunity for all to tour the studio, meet the Ivori Nicole Events team and view the debut of the newest Ivori Nicole Events Brand Film, New Beginnings! It didn’t hurt that there was a bevy of sugary sweet macaroons, branded cookies, glittery iced donuts, and lots of pink bubbly to go around.

Cupcakes & Bubbly was the culmination of an extensive rebrand, and an opportunity to showcase not only the working studio where I’ll meet with both my team and my clients, but to extend a welcome to my fellow industry entrepreneurs as well. Teaming with knowledgeable and creative vendors helps me to create an even better experience for my clients, so I always look forward to partnering.

In mentioning partnering, I have to express thanks and kudos to all the fabulous vendors who helped to make Cupcakes & Bubbly a sparkling success! They provided their products or services, attended the event–or both!

Creative Design Intern

In tandem with the Ivori Nicole Events rebranding efforts, Ivori conceptualized a photo shoot that would be the visual representation of her signature style, Vintage Country Chic. Working with local vendors including a photographer, videographer, floral designer and stylist, the team captured a series of chic vignettes on film: a beautifully unique circular ceremony design featuring rose petals in a custom ombré design; a lounge area featuring a chaise lounge with branded INE pillows; guest and head table creations with lush floral runners, alternating farm chairs, elegant stem wear and place settings and lovely floral centerpieces; and a cake table, complete with bride and groom silver wear and a resplendent INE cake topper.  An INE branded color palette of blush, ivory and gold tied all of the pieces together.
